The Secret Garden Community Space

The Project, "Secret Garden" is designed as a space for introspection, connection with nature, and community well-being within Sacramento’s Oak Park. The use of a brick facade is deeply rooted in the community's identity and history. Using locally sourced brick cladding seamlessly blends this space into the area, fostering a sense of belonging and continuity. The brick also works to conceal the tranquil interior, which is revealed to passersby through a portal wall. The entryway winds around creating a liminal space that builds anticipation. Inside, local flora creates a tactile and sensory garden, while circular windows and integrated wooden seating offer moments of rest and connection. The circular design parti is integrated in every aspect of the space, reinforcing the space's goal of creating a holistic environment. This project is centered around community well-being and utilising elements of privacy and connection creates a peaceful green refuge, even during Sacramento's hot summers.
